Packing for a cruise? You REALLY need to be practical. As you know space is (very) limited on a cruise ship… It is time to consider a capsule wardrobe (“capsule wardrobe: a collection of a few essential and interchangeable items of clothing that will not go out of fashion").
Whether you are about to enjoy the sunny Caribbean islands or the polar Norwegian fjords, we cannot recommend enough you throw a few scarves into your luggage. They will be your best friends all along your trip.
In case you don’t know which ones you should bring, we have worked on a selection for you:
#1: Oblong chiffon silk scarf with polka dots, white or black
Why?
For three reasons: 1) Black and white is part of the dress code on a cruise 2) Polka dot prints are timeless and always elegant… and elegance is your priority during a cruise 3) Oblong scarves are versatile and you can wear them in many different ways.
Where and how?
As a stylish headscarf during a windy day, tied around a panama hat or as an airy shoulder wrap at tablecloth dinners. A lovely complement to your white or black dress.
#2 : Cashmere-silk pashmina scarf / pastel color
Why?
You already know or you will soon get to discover that the Air Conditionning can be your worst enemy on a cruise ship. There are days it is literally freezing. You certainly don’t want a cold to ruin your vacation! A pashmina will save you!
Where and how?
As a warm neck scarf or as a protective stole around your shoulders.
#3: Extra large silk satin scarf / Pink Street chic or Turquoise Street chic
Why? First, for its size: it allows infinity of styles. Second, for its design: fresh, simple and sunny (lots of white in it).
Where and how? Near the pool, as a fabulous swimsuit cover up or as a sarong, as a fancy head band or as a stunning belt on a pair of white pants
#4: Silk twill scarf / Nautical design / blue
Why? Because it’s always nice to be dressed in harmony with the environment and a scarf featuring the sea sounds like an adorable must have on a cruise ship.
Where and how? Tied around a ponytail or as a headscarf styled à la Grace Kelly or à la Jackie Kennedy while strolling the deck.
#5: silk twill scarf / any design / vivid color
Why? Because a silk twill carré (classic French square silk scarf) is the most elegant scarf ever…
Where and how? For special events or at dinner time. A vibrant scarf will add a pop of color to your plain black or white dress. Wear it as fluffy neck scarf or, for a dressier style, as an eye catching drape.
Wishing you a lovely cruise!
