Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to fight COVID-19 and to easily make your own cloth face masks with a scarf! Here are several good reasons to start moving:
Yes, I said less than a minute. No sewing machine necessary. No seamstress talent required. The only “ingredients” you need are a bandana scarf and two large hair ties or rubber bands.
These two “ingredients” are enough to make your own face mask! Though this home-made covering doesn’t have the filtering properties of a surgical or N95 mask, it will at least prevent you from spreading the virus into the air.
Home-made cloth mask tutorial in 5 easy steps:
#1: Open up your bandana and fold it in until you obtain a 3 to 4-inch-wide rectangle
#2: Grab two hair ties (or two basic rubber bands) and place them about 8” apart on each side of the folded bandana
#3: Fold each scarf end over each elastic
#4: Tuck one scarf end inside the other one
Almost there…
#5: Loop your bandana mask on your ears. AND YOU ARE GOOD TO GO!
Like any “recipe” you can adapt this one: for example, to add extra layers of protection you can place one or two coffee filters inside your bandana before you fold it…
Isn’t it easy to create your own personalized and elegant face mask? Just remember to remove it by the hair ties / rubber bands and to wash it every time you use it.
Finally, wash your mask regularly in hot water. BTW though we recommend dry cleaning for ANNE TOURAINE Paris™ silk-cotton bandanas, these can also be washed at home as long as they are hand washed separately from other garments.
Please note that your home-made cloth mask is not and does not have the properties of an official medical device. However, keep in mind that it is better than wearing no mask at all!
ANNE TOURAINE Paris™ scarves wishes you the best. Keep well and stay safe!
